Francesca Gavazzi saw a ghost and let everyone know it. ‘Freaky Franny’ is still paying for it in high school. And, she and two friends are still being haunted by that same ghost.
You can see decaying bodies, walk among hundreds of ghosts, deal with countless hauntings, horrible but incredible visions and get possessed only once before you have to make it all stop. Putting their investigative skills to work, the friends identify the ghost and work together to solve her murder. They know it is the only way to set this little girl’s spirit free. One thing is clear, the danger is real; the killer wants nothing more than to make teenage ghosts out of all three of them.
Goners eBook IO Neil
Francesca (Fran) Gavazzi isn't the most popular girl in school. She's a brain, she loves science fiction, and she doesn't seek approval from others because she doesn't need to. She has a dotting father who loves her, and she has her best friend Matt, who's braver than he looks, and loyal to a fault. Sure, people think she's a little strange. She's endured taunts from some of her peers at school, but she has nothing in common with those kids. Or does she?At sixteen, Fran discovers she shares a surprising, and unexpected connection with quarterback and all-around popular guy Tyler Barry. They can both see something no one else can: Rebecca, the ghost of a little girl who won't be ignored, and whose secrets could shatter the quiet peace of Banbridge and its residents.
Ty and Fran decide to work together to solve the mystery of Rebecca's disappearance. With Matt's help, they search for answers and unearth long forgotten secrets. But there are people in Banbridge anxious to keep those secrets buried at any cost...
Part mystery, part ghost story, part thriller, Goners is a very satisfying read. Its protagonists are real, relatable, and will appeal to a wide readership. Though this story stands alone, the author hints at a sequel towards the end of the novel. I'd love to see Fran, Ty, and Matt's story continue.

Goners eBook IO Neil Reviews
Great read!!! Couldn't put it down. Can't wait for another one by I. O. Neil. Keep them coming
When Franny was a little girl, she had the best birthday party, filled with her friends...and her dad's boss's son. Everything was going so well, until she tried to make it better for the one little girl who wasn't having fun, only to find out that no one else could see her. Fast forward to high school where everyone knows that Franny's different and the bullies have no intention to let her live in peace. For that matter, neither does the child, who seems to have decided that she's waited long enough for her murderer to be brought to justice.
THE GOOD
Francesca is fierce. She's smart and kind--a worthy heroine without crossing the line into too good to be true. Her best friend could have been a carbon copy of "the guy best buddy", but he wasn't. Similarly, Ty, the boy she was falling for, could have easily been just another jock. The author did a good job in breathing life into these characters rather than inserting stereotypes.
The story is well written, which leads us to...
THE BAD
There really wasn't any. I spotted two typos, and I'm not a fan of how people were addressed in conversation without use of commas. Nit-picking! I was wavering over whether to give The Goners 3 stars or 4, and decided that the fact that I kept reading late into the night, always wanting to know what would happen next, weighed more than such minor glitches.
There was something I can't quite put my finger on in the writing...I'd thought at first that it was well written but simplistic, but that's not necessarily the right word. Too clean? Maybe, but I like that I'll be able to share it with my pre-teen daughter.(it's a horror story and there is a touch of gore, but not too heavy a touch). Is there such a thing as a cozy horror story? Like a cozy mystery with ghosts demanding help from the living and not taking it well when it's not forthcoming? If so, I think that's what I was trying to pinpoint about this story. And it's not a genre yet, maybe I.O. Neil just invested it. Either way, I found it well worth the read.
